Behind the Listing

At OT Jobs Australia I want to do more than just list jobs. I am trying something new called Behind the Listing, where we take a closer look at a practice or organisation that is advertising on the job board.

A job listing tells you what a role involves, but it does not always tell you what it is actually like to work somewhere. Behind the Listing is an attempt to fill that gap. It gives you a better sense of the people behind the job, who they are, what they value, and what kind of OT they are looking for.

Behind the Listing is available exclusively to organisations that advertise on OT Jobs Australia. I am in the early stages of this and will be featuring a small number of practices to start with.

One 3 Care

1.Tell us a bit about your practice. What do you do and who do you work with?

One 3 Care is a small occupational therapy practice founded on lived experience. (My husband sustained a C4 spinal cord injury 3 years ago - click for more information) Our main focus is neurological rehabilitation, working with people with spinal cord injury, brain injury and stroke, FND, progressive neurological conditions, persistent pain and fatigue, as well as people experiencing cognitive and functional changes.

FND is an exciting area to work in as it it the most common conditions seen in neurology clinics yet access to treatment remains limited. We have a dedicated FND program and run a peer support group.

We help people rebuild independence and confidence through practical, individualised OT. Our work includes neurological rehabilitation, upper limb and hand therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue management, return to work, equipment prescription and functional assessments.

2. Where are you located and what areas do you service?

Our clinic is in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. We offer clinic appointments, community visits across Brisbane and telehealth Australia-wide.

3 What makes your practice a good place to work? What do you offer your team?

We want our OTs to be able to focus on being OTs.

We take care of referrals, marketing, admin, bookings, invoicing, business development and the day-to-day work of running a practice. Our therapists have the freedom to build their own caseload, work flexibly and concentrate on delivering really good therapy.

We're not trying to build the biggest team. We'd rather build a small team of great therapists who enjoy what they do.

4. What does supervision and professional development look like for your OTs?

We provide clinical supervision and mentoring with our highly experienced Senior OT, Renee, as well as plenty of opportunity to discuss cases and learn from each other.

We also support professional development around an OT's own clinical interests. We want people to keep developing in the areas they genuinely enjoy.

5. What kind of OT are you looking for? What qualities matter most to you when hiring?

We'd love an OT with neurological experience or a genuine interest in neuro, but we're also very open to an experienced OT with a special interest outside neuro who would like to build their own area of practice within One 3 Care.

That could be someone who has thought about working for themselves but doesn't want the headache of running a business. You bring the clinical expertise and build the caseload you want. We can take care of the business around it.

More than anything, we're looking for someone who is kind, capable, independent and genuinely cares about doing good work with their clients.

6. Is there anything else you would like job seekers to know about your practice or your team culture?

We're small, flexible and very human. There are no layers of management or corporate culture.

We want our therapists to have autonomy, enjoy their work and have a life outside it. For the right person, there's a real opportunity to shape their role and potentially develop their own little niche within One 3 Care.
